Improving maternal and newborn Health through community participation
Mwada-Gana Foundation (Women Health Center/Mobile maternity Unit) was founded in memory of my parents. My mother died of breast cancer at an early age of 54 while my dad died of Complication of type II Diabetes Mellitus some 21 and 14 years respectively.
My parents were both teachers who were not very rich but had more than enough to put clothes on our back, put food on the table and to educate us. I could still hear my mom”s voice telling us her kids that ” i do not have any money to leave behind when i die but one singular thing i have is education. I will therefore educate you to the highest level you want to attain. My advice to you is, you should read your books till your eyes are about to explode, because education will take you places” . I never forgot that statement, i read and here i am an Obstetrician and Gynecologist with great passion in maternal and newborn health.
This is now the time to give back to my community taking Obstetrics and Newborn care to rural area where the most vulnerable women and children are. Where health facilities are either non existent, or are too far to reach.
